Microsoft’s Ending Support For Windows 7. Here’s Why You Should Update

September 4, 2019

For many people, updating their computer before it stops working just doesn’t make sense. Updates can change how programs work, modify the look of your desktop, or move your files around. And installing the updates seems to take forever.

But when it comes to keeping your computer safe, updating and installing the latest operating system has major benefits that outweigh the inconvenience.

Microsoft has stated that they will end support for Windows 7 on January 14th, 2020. That means you’ll no longer be able to request customer assistance regarding Windows 7 issues. Microsoft will also stop updating Windows 7, leaving it vulnerable to hackers. They also won’t fix any bugs.

So, in order to prevent cybersecurity issues, it’s obvious that your business should upgrade all of their computers to Windows 10.

If you’re not convinced, here’s why experts are urging business owners to make the switch.

1) Stronger malware security tools

It’s hard to keep track of updating your antivirus on top of everything else. That’s why Windows 10 has a robust built-in malware tracker. Called Windows Defender Exploit Guard, this software is adept at scanning updated databases for new potential threats, quarantining infected files so they don’t affect other ones, and keeping your machine safe from new threats. Since cybersecurity issues cause small businesses to lose thousands of dollars a year, this feature alone is worth the upgrade.

2) More robust ransomware defenses

Ransomware is one of the biggest issues companies face. When targeted by ransomware hackers, businesses can lose thousands of dollars. Hackers take control of your machines and lock your files. If you don’t have your data backed up, the hackers will attempt to extort thousands of dollars to return your files.

Luckily, Windows 10 has a fairly simple fix. Using the Windows Defender Exploit Guard, you can decide which apps and programs are allowed to modify, delete, or lock your documents. You should never give this permission to programs you don’t recognize or trust.

3) Faster, smaller updates

When you upgrade to Windows 10, you can kiss the long updates goodbye. Windows 10 streamlines the processes, making the updates smaller. This also allows you to keep more space on your hard-drive, instead of crowding it out for more operating system data.

Because it’s faster and easier to install updates, you now have no excuse for not updating your machines.
